Olympics 2024 Table Tennis: Sreeja, Manika exit in the R16, Highlights
World no.25 Sreeja Akula faces world no.52 Zeng Jiang of Singapore in the round of 32 match.
The singles events of the Indian table tennis contingent came to an end with both Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula losing to higher-ranked opponents in their respective round of 16 matches.
Sreeja Akula, earlier in the day, became the second Indian paddler to qualify for the round of 16, when she defeated Zeng Jian of Singapore in the round of 32.
As it happened:
A game of fine margins.
Sreeja Akula, four game points in game one, five game points in game two, but were it for anyone but the beast that is Sun Yingsha, Sreeja would be the one heading into the quarter-finals.
The heart goes out for Sreeja, what a performance from the Indian. She has punched above her weight and can hold her head high!
Final score: Sreeja Akula 0-4 Sun Yingsha (10-12, 10-12, 8-11, 3-11)
Sreeja misses a forehand as the ball spun away from her racket.
Sun Yingsha is running away with it now.
That was some backhand from the Chinese! Takes a two point lead early into game four.
The rally of the match!
The point of the match!
Sreeja produces a moment of magic and claims the point after an exhilarating rally!
What a performance from Sreeja!
Pressure, what pressure? Sun Yingsha is now 3-0 up!
Sreeja has performed amazingly and has shown a lot of heart but there is a reason the Chinese paddler is the world no.1!
