The Indian Football League (IFL) has expanded its broadcast and streaming network for the 2026-27 season, bringing together Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) and DD Sports to increase access to the country's domestic club football competition.

Under the arrangement, DD Sports will telecast every match of the season, while selected fixtures will also be shown on Unite8 Sports. On the digital side, all matches will be available on Z5, Prasar Bharati's WAVES platform and the official Unite8 Sports YouTube channel. The YouTube coverage will provide fans with a free streaming option.

The multi-platform arrangement gives the IFL access to established television networks as well as digital audiences, potentially reducing the barriers for fans who may not otherwise follow domestic club football.

A wider distribution network

The partnership brings together public-service broadcasting and commercial sports distribution. DD Sports will provide television coverage of the entire competition, while ZEEL's involvement adds Unite8 Sports and its digital platforms to the league's broadcast mix.

For the IFL, the objective is to reach viewers across different regions and viewing preferences. Fans will be able to follow the competition through television, OTT platforms and YouTube, rather than relying on a single broadcast destination.

Nildeep Mondal, CEO of the Indian Football League, said, “The 2026-27 season represents an important step forward for the Indian Football League, both in terms of the competition on the pitch and the way we connect with football fans across the country.”

He added, “With Zee also joining as broadcast partners, and every match available across multiple digital and television platforms, we are taking a significant step towards making the league more accessible to audiences across India and helping us connect with fans across different regions and demographics.”

Bavesh Janavlekar, Chief Business Officer of Zee Sports Network, said, “For Indian football, the opportunity is to reach the right fans, everywhere they are.”

Building on the previous season's audience

The expanded coverage follows a reported television audience of 17.56 million for the previous IFL season. Shillong Lajong FC managing director Larsing LD Sawyan also said the inaugural IFL season recorded 1.6 times the viewership of the Indian Super League (ISL).

The new broadcast arrangement allows the competition to build on that audience. However, wider availability will need to translate into regular viewership and sustained engagement if it is to strengthen the league's commercial appeal.

Greater exposure could also improve the visibility of participating clubs and create more opportunities for sponsors seeking to reach football audiences beyond the country's established markets.

An 11-club, home-and-away season

The 2026-27 IFL season began on October 30, with 11 clubs competing in a full home-and-away format. Each team is scheduled to play 20 matches, with the campaign set to conclude on March 20, 2027.

The season also features new entrants Nagaland United SC and Samaleswari Sporting Club, expanding the competition's geographical footprint.

The broadcast partnership is therefore arriving alongside a broader effort to develop the league's reach, both on the pitch and off it. The next test will be whether nationwide availability can help convert interest in Indian club football into a larger and more consistent audience.
