Armaan Bhatia wins three titles at India Masters pickleball event
Armaan emerged as champion in the men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles categories at the India Masters, a first-of-its-kind pickleball event in India.
India's Armaan Bhatia clinched three titles at the PWR DUPR India Masters, a Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) 700 tournament, in New Delhi, a first-of-its-kind event in India on Sunday.
Armaan emerged as champion in the men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles categories at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) stadium.
The 25-year-old former tennis player defeated the USA's Dusty Boyer 8-11, 11-9, 11-8 in the men's singles final before he clinched the mixed doubles title with Roos van Reek and the men’s doubles title with compatriot Harsh Mehta.
The highlight of Armaan's success was the men's singles title against the top-seeded Boyer.
Armaan, the top-ranked pickleball player in Asia, started well but lost the opening set. In the second set, the Indian player held his nerves and forced the decider.
Even though Boyer stayed ahead in the third set, claiming an 8-0 lead, Armaan staged a roaring comeback to win the men's singles title.
In the men's doubles final, Armaan and his partner Harsh defeated Roman Estereja-Mitch Hargreaves in straight sets (11-3, 11-2).
Maintaining his domination, Armaan and his Dutch partner Roos van Reek trounced George Wall-Danni Elle Townsend 11-5, 10-11, 11-1 in the mixed doubles final.
