Two-time Paralympic champion Sumit Antil bettered his own World record in the men's F64 Javelin throw event at the Indian Open Para Athletics Championships in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

He unleashed a massive 74.82m throw in his fifth attempt to improve on his personal best and previous world record of 73.29m to win the title.

"I was wondering why I wasn’t able to better it (World Record) in competition. It's been so long, but today I came here just to do my personal best," said Sumit to the Bridge after his world record.

Sumit had last set the world record at the 2023 Asian Para Games in China. Three years later, he has now improved his own world record for the seventh time with a huge improvement of 1.5m.

"I'm happy that I improved my mark by 1.5m and hope that my team and I will continue to do better at the upcoming Para Asian Games," he added.

Sumit was aiming to improve his world record at last year's home world championships in New Delhi, but he missed out on a PB due to rehab from a shoulder injury.

However, he won his third world title with a new championship record of 71.37m in front of his home crowd, but fell short of his expected personal best performance.

But now, after changing his technique and rhythm, he has finally achieved his target and is eager to defend his Asian Para Games gold at the Aichi-Nagaoya Asian Para Games.
