History beckons in New Delhi's Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, as the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup is all set to be held from January 13 to 19.

With 20 teams in the men's edition and 19 teams in the women's edition, the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup promises to be an eye-catching week of nonstop action and entertainment.

The World Cup's inception and its subsequent realisation into the actual event is clear evidence of the growing nature of this sport and is a significant step towards the globalisation of the sport.

It is a nice touch from the governing bodies to give hosting rights to India for the inaugural edition, given that the sport has its origins in India

Format of the Kho-Kho World Cup

The teams are divided into four groups of five teams each in the men's edition.

The top two teams in each group following a round-robin will qualify for the knockout rounds, starting with the quarterfinals.

For the women's edition, Group A will contain four teams, while the other three groups will have five teams each. Much like the men's event, the top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.
