Harsh Singh wins gold, gives India second straight Commonwealth Games Judo title

India's Harsh Singh clinched the gold medal in the men's 60kg judo event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, defeating Australia's Joshua Katz in the final to hand the country its second successive judo gold of the day.

The 23-year-old produced a composed display before delivering a decisive half-arm throw in the closing stages of the contest. The move earned him a Waza-ari, which proved enough to secure victory and the Commonwealth Games title.

Decisive late throw seals historic victory

The final remained evenly balanced for much of the contest, with both judokas attempting to gain an advantage through groundwork and throwing exchanges. Despite several attacking moves, neither competitor managed to score during the opening minutes.

With the clock winding down, Harsh found the breakthrough. He executed a perfectly timed half-arm throw on Katz to score a Waza-ari in the final minute, holding on for the remainder of the bout to seal the victory.

The gold completed an outstanding campaign for the Indian, who was making his Commonwealth Games debut.

Harsh began his campaign with a dominant ippon win over Malawi's Chikondi Kathewera in the round of 16 before defeating Vanuatu's Alan Monthouel by ippon in the quarter-finals. He then overcame Australia's Pedro Carlos Antun Neto by Waza-ari in the semi-finals to book his place in the title clash.

The Commonwealth Games triumph marks the biggest achievement of Harsh's career. A regular member of India's national judo team, he has represented the country on the International Judo Federation World Tour, competing in events such as the Tokyo and Tashkent Grand Slams, the Asian Championships and the 2026 Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam.

Harsh's victory came shortly after Asmita Dey won India's first-ever Commonwealth Games judo gold in the women's 48kg category, making it a landmark day for Indian judo in Glasgow.
