FIH Men's Pro League LIVE: India vs Argentina- Score, Updates, Blog
The Indian men’s hockey team have one final opportunity to salvage pride in the Rourkela leg of the FIH Pro League as they face Argentina in the return fixture today at 7:30 PM.
After a challenging stretch at home, Harmanpreet Singh and his teammates will be desperate to sign off with a performance that reflects their true potential. The hosts are still searching for their first points of this leg, and the memory of the 0–8 defeat to the same opposition earlier this week remains fresh.
While the scoreline was harsh, India showed far more character in their most recent outing against Belgium, fighting back from two goals down before eventually going down 2–4.
Stay with us for the live score:
Argentina strike again and it’s a superb piece of finishing from Lucio Mendez. The move opens up quickly and Mendez makes no mistake, producing a clinical effort to extend the visitors’ lead to three. India are left with a mountain to climb in the final quarter and a half.
IND 0–3 ARG
A big chance for the hosts right at the start of the second half as India win consecutive penalty corners. Abhishek with the injection and Harmanpreet Singh goes for the drag-flick, but Argentina rush out quickly and manage to clear. A positive attacking intent from India, though, as they look for a way back.
We’re back for the third quarter with India needing a strong response. Argentina restart with the advantage, while the hosts will look for early control, quicker ball movement and a way back into the game.
That’s the end of the first half in Rourkela, with Argentina heading into the interval with a comfortable 2-0 lead. Their clinical penalty-corner conversion followed by a sharp field goal has put India on the back foot. The hosts have shown flashes in attack, but will need a much stronger second-half response to get back into the contest.
Argentina double their lead late in the second quarter with a well-taken field goal from Tadeo. India immediately ask for a referral, hoping for a reprieve, but the decision stays. The visitors’ finish is confirmed and the hosts now have work to do.
India finally produce a promising move going forward with a sharp circle entry. Hardik does well to carve open space with a lively run into the attacking area, but the move fizzles out without a final touch on goal. Encouraging signs for the hosts nonetheless.
Argentina make their dominance count early in the second quarter and this time it stands. Tomas Domene fires in a brilliantly executed penalty corner, the drag-flick rocketing past a helpless Indian goalkeeper. A clinical finish and the visitors move into the lead.
The first quarter comes to a close with both sides still searching for the opener. Argentina saw an early goal overturned after a review, while India had to do plenty of defending for long stretches. The hosts will take confidence from a resilient defensive effort as we head into the second quarter.
The early Argentina strike has been ruled out! After a video referral, the goal from Tomas Domene is cancelled, and India breathe a huge sigh of relief. We remain goalless in the opening quarter.
