HIL: Team Gonasika defeats Soorma Hockey Club – Highlights

That's all we have from the clash between Team Gonasika and Soorma Hockey Club at the Hockey India League tonight.

It was a must win match for Gonasika to stay in contention for the semi-finals and boy did they play like it. Nilam Sanjeep Xess handed them the lead in the third quarter, but Soorma fought back to equalise in the next.

Lee Morton, however, found the winner late in the match to ensure Gonasika pocket three full points from the match for only the second time.

Team Gonasika's Mandeep Singh is Player of the Match.

"It feels good to get three points. We had lost very close matches previously. We executed whatever we talked about in the meeting," says Mandeep.

"Jagbir paaji is back with the team 11 days after being hospitalised. This win is for him," adds Singh.

Jagbir Singh had suffered a heart attack and was hospitalised earlier this month while he was with the team.

There goes the hooter and Team Gonasika have finally registered a win. They were clearly the better side tonight in absence of Harmanpreet Singh for the Soorma Hockey Club and they duly walk away with three points. 

Nilam Sanjeep Xess and Lee Morton with two goals in a must-win contest for Gonasika, while the Soorma will hope to put this result behind them as soon as possible.

The Soorma Hockey Club are down to ten men with a green card and Team Gonasika respond almost immediately. A massive defensive blunder from Nicolas della Torre, who loses possesion inside the circle.
