Ligue 1 is returning to Indian screens for the 2026–27 season through a new broadcast partnership between LFP Media, the commercial arm of French football’s professional league body, and JioStar.

Under the agreement, JioHotstar will stream at least four Ligue 1 matches from every matchday, while selected fixtures will also be broadcast across the Star Sports network. The deal gives the French top flight both digital and television distribution in India, across two of JioStar’s major sports platforms.

A wider distribution play

For Ligue 1, the partnership provides a broader distribution setup in India than a digital-only arrangement. JioHotstar gives the league access to a large streaming audience, while Star Sports adds a linear television platform with an established sports audience.

The partnership also comes as Ligue 1 expands its international distribution. According to SportsMint, the competition will be available across 215 territories through 53 broadcast partners and in 44 languages during the 2026–27 season.

Ligue 1 also recorded a 30% increase in its international audience during the 2025–26 season, according to the report.

What it means for JioStar

European football property to its sports offering. The company operates JioHotstar and the Star Sports network, allowing it to distribute Ligue 1 across streaming and television rather than limiting the property to a single platform.

The addition also strengthens the football inventory available to JioStar beyond India’s domestic competitions and its other international rights properties.

For LFP Media, meanwhile, the deal provides a new distribution partner in a market where international football has an established audience and competition for attention is high. Putting matches on both JioHotstar and Star Sports gives the league multiple routes to reach Indian viewers.

The partnership will cover the 2026–27 Ligue 1 season, bringing French football back to Indian audiences through JioStar’s wider sports-media ecosystem.
