East Bengal FC began their AFC Women’s Champions League 2026-27 Preliminary Stage campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Bangladesh’s Rajshahi Stars FC 4-0 at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, on Monday.

Ghanaian forward Olivia Anokye led the scoring with a brace, while India internationals Astam Oraon and Soumya Guguloth also found the net as the Indian Women’s League champions produced a dominant display.

East Bengal needed only nine minutes to take the lead. Anokye converted from the penalty spot after the Indian side were awarded a spot-kick, giving goalkeeper Rupna Chakma little chance despite her efforts.

The advantage was doubled in the 26th minute when Astam Oraon finished to put East Bengal firmly in control. The Indian side continued to dictate proceedings and added a third goal nine minutes before the interval.

Rimpa Haldar sent a cross into the area in the 38th minute, with Sulanjana Raul retrieving the ball at the far post before cutting it back for Anokye. The Ghanaian made no mistake to complete her brace and give East Bengal a 3-0 lead at half-time.

Rajshahi Stars showed greater resistance following the restart, but struggled to create clear opportunities. Their best effort came from distance through Monika Chakma, whose attempt was comfortably dealt with by East Bengal goalkeeper Panthoi Chanu Elangbam.

East Bengal eventually added a fourth in the 71st minute. A defensive error allowed Sulanjana to release Soumya Guguloth, who calmly finished the opportunity to complete the scoring.

East Bengal will next face Guam’s Rovers FC on Thursday before taking on hosts Sabah FA on Sunday. Only the group winners will advance to the AFC Women’s Champions League group stage.
