That's all we have from ATKMB's first AFC Cup match of the season at the Saltlake Stadium. Playing in front of their home crowd, the Mariners were displayed why they were touted as the favourites coming into this contest and handed a proper 5-0 drubbing to Blue Star SC.

An easy, easy victory this for ATK Mohun Bagan. I doubt if they would have played an easier contest in recent times. The Mariners scored thrice in the first half and killed the match there itself. The rest was a mere formality.
There was a drop in intensity in the second half, but Manvir Singh's heroics helped ATKMB to add two more to their tally. The Blue Stars did try their best and came close to scoring multiple times, but Arsh Anwer Shaikh on his debut ensured that he walks back with a clean slate.

It seems as if both the teams have accepted the result. A drop in intensity from both sides and they would be happy to walk back if the whistle blows rightaway.
Throughout the evening Manvir Singh had consistently failed to find David Williams in the D. But, not this time though. A pin-point pass directly at David Williams feat and the Australian taps it in.

A wonderful through chip from Hugo to Bidyananda Singh. The latter tries to slot it in, but Fernando is once again up to the task and saves.
This is certainly a night to remember for Arsh Anwer Shaikh. Poor defending from the Mariners as Sandesh breaks in and has a clear shot at goal. Arsh runs forward to cut the angle and then dives full length to his right and denies. WONDERFUL GOALKEEPING.
A sensational run from Hugo Boumous, dribbles past three defenders but does not have the angle to scores. Chips straight to the goalkeeper. But that was a run and a half from the French-Moroccan.
David Williams could have done better here. The fourth goal was there for the taking for ATKMB but Williams fails to get it past the Blue Star goalkeeper Fernando, who did extremely well to deny the Australian.
He is on his debut, but it clearly does not feel so. A dangerous run from Blue Star and Arsh Anwer Shaikh charges in and takes the ball in his control. Danger averted.
