Korea Track Cup: Esow Alben clinches silver medal in men's elite keirin

Indian cycling sensation Esow Alben clinched the silver medal in the men's elite keirin event at the Korea Track Cup.

India’s ace cyclist from Andaman and Nicobar, Esow Alben, clinched the silver medal in the men's elite keirin event at the Korea Track Cup on Friday.

Esow finished behind the Asian Games silver medalist, Kang Seo-Jun of South Korea in the final. Whereas, Cheuk Hei To of Hong Kong won the bronze medal in the event.

Esow started the tournament on a high note and advanced to the semi-finals with a great performance in the preliminary round where he finished at the top of group 4.

Continuing his prowess the world championship semi-finalist, qualified for the finals securing a top-three position in the semi-finals.

Earlier, Esow also took part in the sprint competition but suffered a round of 16 exit in the event, losing his one-on-one race to Kim Dong-Hyun of South Korea.

On the other hand, another Indian cyclist, Laitonjam Ronaldo Singh, finished third in group 3 of the men's keirin event, giving him a chance to compete in the repechages.

Then in repechage, he again finished third in group 3 which ended his journey at the tournament.

Ronaldo also reached the quarterfinals of the sprint competition after winning his repechage group 2. But then, he bowed out in the quarterfinals, losing to his South Korean opponent, Kim Dong-Hyun.
