Commonwealth Games 2026 : All you need to about Elkatohchoongo David Beckham

Elkatohchoongo David Beckham is one of India's most promising track cyclists and will be representing the country at his second Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2026.

With multiple national records, historic performances and years of international experience behind him, Beckham heads to the Games as one of India's biggest hopes in track cycling.

Early days

Born in September 2003 in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Beckham's journey has been shaped by resilience from an early age. He lost his father in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and his mother to an infection in 2014. Despite these personal setbacks, he continued to chase his dream of becoming a cyclist.

Beckham took up cycling in Delhi in 2017. when he first started riding, his feet did not even touch the ground while sitting on the bicycle. He kept training regularly and gradually improved with time.

With no proper track cycling facilities available in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Beckham had to move away from home and train in bigger cities. at that time he did not have any major goals  and simply focused on improving every day.

Rising through the ranks

Over the years, he has established himself as one of India's leading cyclists through consistent performances at national and international competitions.

He currently holds the Indian national record in the Flying 200m Time Trial with a timing of 9.671 seconds, set at the UCI Track Nations Cup in Konya, Türkiye.

He also shares the national record in the men's team sprint with Esow Alben and Yanglem Rojit Singh after the trio clocked 44.187 seconds.

His performances also earned him a place at the prestigious UCI World Cycling Centre Elite Training Programme in Aigle, Switzerland, where some of the world's best cyclists train.

Creating history

At the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, he became the first Indian cyclist to reach the quarterfinals of a sprint cycling event. His campaign ended against Japan's Kaiya Ota in the men's elite sprint quarterfinals.

He also competed in the men's keirin, where he advanced to the semifinals but missed out on reaching the medal round and finished 11th.

He continued his progress with strong performances in the following years. He won the men's elite sprint gold medal at the National Games and claimed silver in the men's elite keirin at the Hong Kong International Track Cup.

He was also part of India's bronze medal winning men's team sprint squad at the 2022 Asian Track Cycling Championships in New Delhi.
