Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 7: Murali Sreeshankar bags his second CWG medal - Highlights

Follow all the highlights from Day 7 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 as India's athletes compete across athletics, swimming, boxing, weightlifting, para sports and bowls.

India built on its strong start to the Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign with another medal-packed day in Glasgow, with three medals on Wednesday.

Murali Sreeshankar opened the tally on the day, winning the silver medal in men's long jump with a leap of 8.09m. Minutes later, Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil followed in men's 100m T47, completing a double podium for India.

Elsewhere, it was heartbreak for Manpreet Kaur (Shot Put) and Suyash Jadhav (Para Swimming) as they ended up in fourth place in their respective events.

In boxing, six pugilists booked their spots in the semi-finals, confirming medals for India in Glasgow, while in athletics, national record holder Animesh Kujur qualified for the 200m semi-finals.

In weightlifting, India had only one medal event, but the teenager Sanjana couldn't find a valid lift in 77 kg snatch and bowed out of the competition early.

The track and field events continued to rake in medals for India at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, as the nation bagged three medals in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Murali Sreeshankar opened the tally on the day, winning the silver medal in men's long jump with a leap of 8.09m. Minutes later, Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil followed in men's 100m T47, completing a double podium for India.

Competition resumes on Thursday with action across bowls, cycling, weightlifting and athletics. A total of 7 medal events are scheduled across three sports.

Two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra will begin his campaign on July 30 in the men's javelin throw qualification round alongside Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh.

Sagar Thayat achieved a season's best of 51.79m, while Devender Kumar recorded a best throw of 48.20m to finish in 6th and 7th positions respectively.

In the combined F42/F43-44 event, Wales’ Aled Davies won the gold medal with a throw of just 48.38m. As an F42 athlete, he benefited from superior classification criteria points over his F43 and F44 competitors.

Nayanmoni Saikia registers her first win after defeating the Isle of Man's Caroline Whitehead in straight sets, 10-2, 7-4, after losing her opening match against Wales. It was a tough match for Nayanmoni, as it looked difficult for her to win both sets. However, she changed the match in the final ends and secured the win.

This was an important win for Nayanmoni to remain in medal contention. She will return to action tomorrow against Malaysia at 8:55 PM IST.

Parul was in the 3-athlete chasing pack for the whole race, fighting for the bronze medal behind two of the best middle-distance runners in the world.

But her compatriot Elise Thorner found that late push to win the silver medal while the Indian couldn't find that late acceleration and finished in 5th place with a sub-par 9:26.75.

Parul is starting her campaign in Glasgow, with her first final in the women's 3,000m steeplechase event.

She has the fourth-best personal best in the 10-athlete final field, and if she could give her best, she may end up on the podium.

Winning this match is very important for Nayanmoni Saikia. End 1 did not start in her favour, as Caroline Whitehead took one point. However, from End 2 onwards, Nayanmoni started scoring and continued to take points in every end, steadily increasing the difference between the scores.

She ultimately won Set 1 with a massive nine-point lead, Winning the set by 11-2.

Winning the next set is also very important for her.

Dilip Gavit stormed through the final 20 metres to pip everyone and bag the gold medal with a Games Record time of 10.71s, followed by Mohammed Basil in the silver medal position at 10.83s.

This is India's first-ever gold medal in a Para track event, also a second double podium in Glasgow after the women's Shot Put F57 event a couple of days before.

India's Aryan Nehra finished seventh in the men's 1500m freestyle final at the Commonwealth Games 2026, clocking 15:36.25.

Australia's Sam Short claimed the gold medal in 14:42.11, while Northern Ireland's Daniel Wiffen took silver in 14:44.70. Australia's Benjamin Goedemans completed the podium with a bronze in 14:49.50.

Manpreet Kaur came so close to India's first-ever shot put medal at the Commonwealth Games, but she dropped to 4th place after Jamaica's Cameron threw 17.87m on her last attempt.

Manpreet started poorly with a 15.92m on her first attempt and then gradually upgraded it to 16.66m on her second and then 17.00m on her third before the big 17.49m throw on 5th.

This pushed her to third place for the time being, but then it was pushed back in the very next leg, and the Indian failed her final attempt, resulting in a heartbreaking finish.

Manpreet rises above Jamaica's Cameron with a big 17.49m throw on her fifth attempt.

She is now in third position, and with just one more attempt to go, she will be hoping to come home with this medal.
