Indian women's doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand created history as they entered the top 10 in BWF World Rankings on Tuesday.

With their new ranking of world number 9, Treesa/Gayatri became the highest-ever ranked Indian women's doubles pair ever. The duo left the iconic duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Jwala Gutta behind to achieve the feat.

In 2015, Ashwini and Jwala became world number 10 and the first Indian women's doubles pair to enter the top 10.

After winning their maiden title at the Syed Modi India International in December last year, the Indian pair put up impressive performance in the World Tour Final to end the year on a high with a career-best ranking of world number 11.

Last year, the pair missed out on the Paris Olympics qualification but did well at the Macau Open and Canada Open. The quarter-final finish at the Malaysia Open last week meant that Treesa and Gayatri won crucial points to enter the world's top 10.

In the women's singles rankings, PV Sindhu dropped two places to be ranked World No. 16 after she missed the season opening Malaysia Open last week due to her marriage.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty remain India's highest ranked men's doubles pair at World No. 9. Last week, they lost in the semi-final of the Malaysia Open Super 1000.

Lakshya Sen, on the other hand, is the top-ranked Indian men's singles player at World No. 12 while HS Prannoy is placed at World number 26.

The Indian shuttlers will have a good chance to pick up crucial points and improve their rankings at the India Open Super 750, starting today in New Delhi.
