Thomas Cup LIVE - India v/s Denmark Quarterfinal - Updates, Results, Scores, Blog
10-3
Srikanth has no answers to Axelsen at the moment as the Danish shuttler continues to motor along. And the home crowd is going crazzzzyyy!
Axelsen races ahead
Just when it seemed Srikanth is fighting back, Axelsen pockets 4 consecutive points and opens up a 8-3 lead. Worrying signs for India as the Olympic Champion looks to be on top of his game!
Srikanth fighting back
The crowd's energy seems to be transferring to Srikanth who fights back to reduce the deficit to 3-4.
The crowd is pumped up
The Indian crowd at the Ceres Arena is pumped up with chants of "Bharat Mata ki Jai" every now and then.
Early lead for Axelsen
And as expected Axelsen takes an early 3-0 lead, thanks to unforced errors from Srikanth!
The players have arrived!
Both Srikanth and Axelsen have arrived at the Ceres Arena. We will be good to begin in the next five minutes.
THIS IS GOING TO BE AN EXCITING CONTEST!
Kidambi Srikanth v/s Viktor Axelsen
The highest-ranked Indian shuttler, Kidambi Srikanth, will kickstart the proceedings for India in the Thomas Cup Quarterfinal. Ranked 14th in the world, he will be up against the Olympic Champion Viktor Axelsen!
This is going to be a daunting task for Srikanth who has been a pale shadow of himself since long. The Danish shuttler holds a 6-3 advantage over the Indian and is surely the favourite to win this.
The start is DELAYED
The start for India v/s Denmark quarterfinal will be delayed by a bit. This is because the South Korea v/s Japan quarterfinal which took place on the Court Number 1 has just ended with Japan making their way into the final four, courtesy a 3-2 win.
India will be playing on Court 1 as well.
Line ups are out!
This is how both the teams line up for the all-important quarterfinals. Some mouth-watering contests on cards and an interesting couple of hours ahead if you are a badminton fan.
Goood Eveninggg!
A Thomas Cup quarterfinal for the first time in more than a decade for India. The last time they managed to enter the final eight of this prestigious event was way back in 2010 when I was just 10.
India has won three Olympic medals in badminton since then. So yes, it has been very long.
The Indian men will take on Denmark today in the quarters and the road to reach the final four is not going be easy. The tie is expected to begin around 5 pm IST.
Also, if India manages to beat the Danish men today, it is going to be HISTORIC. 1979 was the last time India played in the semifinals of the Thomas Cup!
