The Indian mixed team was up against England in the final group tie of the 2025 Sudirman Cup in Xiamen, China, on Thursday.
India, however, had already exited from the tournament after losing their first two group ties against Indonesia and Denmark with the same scoreline of 1-4.
The team hence decided to use their bench strength in this final tie and fielded young shuttlers like Anupama Upadhyaya and Sathish Karunakaran in the lineup.
As it happened:
England bounced back in the tie, winning the final two matches, including the final mixed doubles match, where the Indian pair of Tanisha Crasto and Sathish Karunakaran failed to convert their chances.
Although India won the tie but their campaign has ended in the group stage itself, because of two back to back defeats in earlier ties.

The young Indian men's doubles pairing of Hariharan and Ruban Kumar had their third consecutive defeat in the tournament on their debut Sudirman Cup campaign.
