The young Indian women's doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the semifinals of the Macau Open 2024 with a straight-game win in Macau, China on Friday.

However, it was an end for the experienced Indian shuttler, Kidambi Srikanth in quarterfinals of the men's singles category, losing a straight game (16-21, 12-21) match to Ng Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong.

Angus proved to be too powerful for the error-prone Kidambi, who had no answer to the trick shots of the Hong Kong player and dismally lost the match.

Kidambi returned to the circuit after a wait of more than two months and will want to get better in the coming tournaments when he will have better match practice and fitness.

Second semifinal of the year for Treesa-Gayatri

On the other hand, the Indian women's doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand continued their good run and reached the semifinals of a BWF World Tour event for the second time in the current year.

They clinched a straight-game (21-12, 21-17) victory over the Chinese Taipei pair of Yin-Hui Hsu and Jhih Yun Lin in the quarterfinals.

The Taipei pair showed some good defense in the match but it wasn't enough for them to stop a dangerous-looking Treesa Jolly, who troubled them with her powerful smashes.

Tressa also had great support from her partner Gayatri, who was excellent on the net and played a few points on her classic drop shots on the net.

The Indian pair will now take on another Taipei pair of Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En-Tzu in the semis tomorrow, sighting for their first BWF final of the year.
