Macau Open: Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand fall in hard-fought semifinal
Treesa and Gayatri went down fighting against Chinese Taipei's eighth-seeded pairing of Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En-Tzu in the semifinals.
The Indian women's doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand's impressive run at the Macau Open Super 300 came to an end on Saturday.
They went down in the semifinals to Chinese Taipei's eighth-seeded pairing of Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En-Tzu in a three-game contest.
Treesa and Gayatri, who had earlier defeated the sixth-seeded Lin Chih-Chun and Teng Chun Hsun of Chinese Taipei in straight games in the quarterfinals, went down 17-21, 21-16, 10-21 in the semifinals.
This marked the World No. 23 Indian pair's exit from the tournament. The Macau Open saw them reaching the semifinals on the BWF World Tour for the first time since June when they reached the last four of the Singapore Open Super 500.
This defeat was also their second consecutive loss to Hsieh and Hung, having previously fallen to the Taipei pair in straight games at the Canada Open Super 500 earlier this year.
In Macau, Treesa and Gayatri put up a strong fight in the opening game but lost momentum after the mid-game break.
Hsieh and Hung tested the Indians' defence at the net with clever strokes and forced the Indians to commit errors by engaging in prolonged rallies. They eventually claimed the opening game 21-17.
The second game saw Treesa and Gayatri mount a strong comeback, displaying their strong resilience. They won the game 21-16 and forced the decider.
However, in the deciding game, Hsieh and Hung took control of the game from the start, giving the Indians no room to recover. The Chinese Taipei pair won the game 21-10 and sealed their spot in the final.
Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En-Tzu will face Li Wen Mei and Zhang Shu Xian of China in the final on Sunday.
