The Badminton World Tour action continues to roll on with the R16 of the 2023 Indonesia Badminton Masters. There were a total of three matches with Indian representation on Day 3 of the event with Lakshya Sen, Saina Nehwal, and Tanisha/Ashwini all in action.
Out of them, Lakshya and Tanisha/Ashwini went through to the quarter-finals, while Saina crashed out.
As it happened:
Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto win the last game 23-21 and defeats the Indonesian pair Mayasari/Sugiarto to reach the quarter-finals.
Final score: 19-21, 21-18, 23-21 in favour of the Indians.
After winning the second game 21-18, Ashwini/Tanisha are right now toe-to-toe with the Indonesians.
The poor run of form for the Indian veteran continues. Saina Nehwal falls to 15-21, 7-21 in just 29 minutes to Han Yue.
Yet another underwhelming start for Saina Nehwal and she trails 1-11 in the second mid-game break. Surely, a comeback from here is farfetched?
Much, much better from Saina Nehwal in the second half of that game, but she left herself a mountain to climb at the start. She surrenders the first game 15-21.
Can the Indian continue this new found momentum in Game 2?
A shot into the net from Han Yue, finally helps Saina Nehwal open her account but the Indian trails 1-11 at the first mid-game break. Certainly not at her best, is the London Olympics medallist.
There could not have been a worse start for Saina Nehwal as she trails 0-8 in the first game.
