Hylo Open 2022: Srikanth Kidambi, Treesa/Gayatri advance to semi-final- Scores, Updates, Blog
It was a mixed day for the Indian shuttlers at the Hylo Open 2022 quarter-finals.
On the day of four quarter-final matches featuring Indians, two were shown to the exit and while two advanced to the next round. Men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and women's singles shuttler Malvika Bansod tasted defeat and bowed out of the Hylo Open 2022.
On a brighter note, women's doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand and men's singles player Kidambi Srikanth won their respective matches to advance to the semi finals. While the duo defeated Tawain's Hsu Ya Ching/Lin Wan Ching (21-17, 18-21, 21-8), Srikanth got the better of Indonesia's Jonatan Christie in straight sets (21-13, 21-19).
Star doubles pair of Satwik/Chirag were ousted by England's Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in straight sets (17-21, 14-21). Bansod, the other Indian player to exit the tournament, was also dealt a straight sets defeat at the racquet of Indonesian Gregoria Tunjung (17-21, 10-21).
Phew that was close! Christie almost caught up with Srikanth after he won a flurry of points in succession. However at the end, the Indian smashed one last time in the quarter final tie to win it 21-13, 21-19.
The Indian looks like he wants to wrap the game up as he puts his might and strength in those blistering smashes. He leads Christie 11-9 at the break of the second set.
Great defense and equally great smashes from the Indian gifts him a 21-13 win over the Indonesian. Can he wrap up the game in straight sets?
Both players are trying to place the shots rather than going for powerful smashes. Christie leads Kidambi at the moment 5-3.
The Indian bowed out of the R16 while the Indonesian couldn't get past the quarter-final stage at the French Open 2022.
And another Indian crashes out of the Hylo Open as Malvika Bansod loses to Gregoria Tunjung of Indonesia 17-21, 10-21.
