Indian shuttlers had a mixed day at the quarterfinal stage of the Guwahati Masters Super 100 Tournament as they only managed to register five wins on the day in Guwahati, India on Friday.

The top seeds and the defending champions Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto are the only Indian pair left in the fray in the semi-final of the women’s doubles category after their win against China’s fifth-seeded pair.

Earlier, Tanisha partnering with Dhruv Kapila, reached the semi-final of the mixed doubles category with a straight-game (21-16, 21-14) win over compatriots, Sathwik Kanapuram and Vaishnavi Khadkhekar.

Anmol gets better of the defending champion

India’s rising women’s singles star Anmol Kharb kept her cool under relentless pressure to pack off defending champion Lalinrat Chaiwan of Thailand in the quarterfinals.

She ought back from 11-16 and 16-20 in the second game to earn two match points only to miss out. She faced a similar situation twice in the decider but this time she converted the second opportunity to register a win (21-13, 22-24, 22-20).

She will now face compatriot Mansi Singh, who defeated Thailand’s Yataweemin Kateklieng 22-20, 21-18, in an all-Indian semifinal tomorrow.

On the other hand, third seed Sathish Kumar Karunakaran also made it to the semifinals of the men’s singles after defeating Saran Jamsri of Thailand in a straight game (21-19, 21-13).
