So so close for debutants Ashith-Amrutha

What a battle for Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh!

The Indian mixed doubles pair went down to Turkey’s Emre Sonmez and Yasemen Bektas in a thrilling three-game contest, 21-16, 29-30, 22-24, after one hour and 11 minutes.

After taking the opening game 21-16, Ashith and Amrutha came agonisingly close in the next two games. They had chances to close it out, but the Turkish pair held their nerve in two nail-biting games.

A 29-30 second game and a 22-24 decider tell the story of just how close this match was. It wasn’t their day on the court today.

Score: Ashith/Amrutha 21-16, 29-30, 22-24 Emre/Yasemen.

Mixed Doubles: Rohan Kapoor-Ruthvika Gadde exit

After a strong start by pocketing the first game 22-20, the Indian pair looked in control for much of the match but lost their grip in the second game, going down 19-21.

The momentum shifted in the decider as Rohan and Ruthvika fell behind early. They were unable to recover, losing the third game 17-21 and the match in one hour and eight minutes.

In the post match interaction, Rohan said the match slipped away in the second half of the second game.

“We were comfortably cruising towards a victory, but that’s how badminton is. You lose focus or a bit of strategy, and the match slips out of your hand,” he said.
