Former Champion PV Sindhu was knocked out on the second day of the ongoing BWF World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, but Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy advanced to the third round.
Lakshya Sen beat Jeon Heyok Jin of Korea 21-11, 21-12 to move into the Round of 16. Sindhu lacked in attacking play and went down tamely 14-21, 14-21 to old nemesis Nozomi Okuhara of Japan. The world number 9 HS Prannoy cruised past Indonesia's Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo by 21-9, 21-14 to reach the Round of 16.
Dominant win for the Indian player as he defeated Chico in straight games 21-9, 21-14. Prannoy moves to round of 16 and remains one of the two representative of India in men's singles.
Wardoyo tried his best after the break but Prannoy has been brilliant today and despite his resistance, Prannoy is closing on to a win with a score of 17-13.
The Indian shuttler has controlled the game well so far and is looking to win the game with a lead of 11-7 at the mid-game break.
Complete control in the game from Prannoy who wins the first game 21-9 and will continue to do the same thing in the second game as advised by national coach Pullela Gopichand.
A superb display by Prannoy as he managed to get the better of Wardoyo in both halves of the court and Wardoyo is unable to match the movement of the Indian shuttler.
Prannoy leads 19-9.
A five-point lead for Prannoy as he has raced to a lead of 11-6 after the score of 4-4. He has been playing the lines well and Wardoyo has no answer to his superior shot quality.
Nozomi Okuhara defeats Sindhu 21-14, 21-14 and the Indian shuttler continues her dismal run in the year 2023. Sindhu looked out of ideas once the Japanese shuttler started her comeback in the second game.
Like the first game, Okuhara has opened up a big lead and this time she has come back from behind. From 0-9 down, she lead 18-14 and looks set to move to the next round.
