That's all we have for today from the Thomas and Uber Cup 2020. A tough day in the office for India as the men fell to a defeat in their final group tie against China in the Thomas Cup while the women have been shown the door from the Uber Cup by a strong Japanese side.

Quite a few positives for the Indian women from this campaign, mainly the emergence of Tanisha Crasto and Rutaparna Panda as a pair and the stomach for fight shown by Aditi Bhatt.

We still do not have the answer to who next after PV Sindhu, but hopefully this campaign was just the start of better things for Indian badminton.

Thank you for joining in. Do join in tomorrow when the Indian men take to the court for the Thomas Cup quarterfinal for the first time in a decade.

That was quick. It took Japan just over 2 hours to send India packing home from the Uber Cup 2020.

Yes, they are the defending champions and India fielded a relatively young side but this was just pure domination from the Japanese shuttlers. Never did India seem like winning the tie. Let alone the tie, never did they seem like coming close to winning a game.

That's how bad this was!

Sayaka Takahashi registers a comfortable 21-16, 21-7 win against Aditi Bhatt and Japan are through to the Semifinal of Uber Cup.

13 Match Points for Takahashi.

13 Tie Points for Japan.

This is going from bad to worse for India as Takahashi races to a 19-7 lead. Just a matter of time now.

Takahashi continues to motor along, and Bhatt does not look catching up with her today.

One of the better rallies of the match and Takahashi pockets it with a wonderful crosscourt winner. She leads 12-6.

2021-10-14 14:09 GMT

Sayaka Takahashi continues her merry ways and goes into the second mid-game break with a healthy 11-5 lead.

India's Uber Cup campaign might come to an end in the next few minutes, it seems.

2021-10-14 14:07 GMT

Sayaka has opened up a lead yet again after Bhatt had equalised. She leads 8-4. Pressure on Aditi!

2021-10-14 14:06 GMT

Three consecutive errors from Takahashi and Aditi Bhatt has levelled things up at 4-4.
