He will now need to clock a time around 4:37.00s or better in the men's 1500m event to breach the 8000 points mark.
His 1500m personal best is 4:31.80s.
Tejaswin Shankar finished the javelin throw with a best of 47.71m
He couldn't cross the 50m mark on his final attempt, either.

Shankar, who had a personal best of 54.85m in men's javelin, is yet to cross the 50m mark today, which might be necessary for him to reach near the 8000 points target.

National Record holder Baranica Elangovan will be in action and will be hoping to improve her own national record for the third time this year.
She has also improved the Indian national record twice this year, with a 4.22m jump at the Indoor National Championships and 4.23m jump at the Indoor Open Pole Vault Tournament.

The national record holder, Tejaswin Shankar, will be in action in the 9th event of the Decathlon Programme.
He has been on an impressive run so far in Ranchi, collecting the career best first day points of 4511 Points combined with a decent performance on second day's morning session.
He has 6751 points right now after 8 events and is on par to breach the Commonwealth Games mark of 7787 points and might even cross the elite 8000-points mark.
