Asian Games LIVE: India will look to build on its first gold medal of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Wednesday, with Mirabai Chanu and Manu Bhaker leading a packed medal hunt on Wednesday.
India opened its gold-medal account on Tuesday as the women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka in the final. The country has now collected eight medals, including one gold, four silver and three bronze, heading into another busy day of competition.
Mirabai Chanu will be one of the biggest names in action when she competes in the women’s 49kg weightlifting final at 10:00 AM IST. The Olympic silver medallist is chasing her first Asian Games medal after narrowly missing the podium in Hangzhou. India have not won an Asian Games weightlifting medal since Karnam Malleswari’s silver in 1998.
Manu Bhaker will also begin her shooting campaign in the women’s 10m air pistol, with qualification at 6:15 AM and the final scheduled for 9:00 AM.
The men’s badminton team will face China in the semifinal at 11:30 AM, with a place in the gold medal match at stake. India’s women’s hockey team takes on Thailand at 11:30 AM, while both kabaddi teams are also in action.
LIVE Updates:
The delayed rowing action, thanks to the typhoon warning in Japan, is set to get underway today. Starting off India's campaign will be 2024 Paris Olympian Balraj Panwar.
Panwar will be in action in men's singles sculls after the events switch controversy, which broke out two days ago. He was earlier slated to compete in quadruple sculls.
The rowers had first threatened to pull out from the Asian Games after the last-minute switch, but they have decided to compete. Read full story here.
