Asian Games 2026 LIVE: India will look to build on another strong day at the 2026 Asian Games as the competition enters its crucial stages on Monday. After adding medals across athletics, squash and boxing on Sunday, India will have several major medal opportunities on September 28.
The biggest focus will be on India’s men’s cricket quarterfinal against Afghanistan at 10 AM, while the men’s hockey team takes on Bangladesh at 3:30 PM. Athletics will also take centre stage in the evening, with men’s long jump, men’s javelin throw, women’s discus throw and several track finals on the schedule.
Keep your eyes also peeled out for the women's 25m pistol event, where the likes of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rahi Sarnobat will look to climb through the rankings during the precision stage.
India will also be in action in boxing, archery, squash, tennis, volleyball, sepak takraw, kurash and surfing throughout the day.
The athletics programme promises a particularly busy evening, with finals in the women’s 400m hurdles, men’s 400m hurdles, men’s 3000m steeplechase, men’s long jump, men’s 1500m, men’s javelin throw and women’s 5000m.

Sivaraj Babu, who had made it to the Last 16 after a win in Round 2 on Sunday, is shown the exit door rather easily early in the morning.
Sivaraj loses 7.83-11.50 to Philippines Alcio Jayuard in Round 3.
This leaves Kishore Kumar Anbarasu, who had qualified for Round 3 directly by topping his Round 1 heat, as the lone Indian standing on surfing's Asian Games debut.

India's Sahil Jadhav and Ganesh Thirumuru start their men's compound individual campaign with a win.
Jadhav, who was the best Indian in the qualification round, takes down Mongolia 149-137 in a comfortable Round of 32 win, while Ganesh Thirumuru staves off a stiff challenge from Indonesia 144-142 to move into the pre-quarter stage.
Unfortunately for Jadhav, Thirumuru, and India, the duo is slated to go up against each other in the next round, which will begin minutes from now.

At the Games in Hangzhou three years ago, India had 53 medals, including 13 gold after eight days. At the end of Day 8 in 2026 Aichi-Nagoya, India's tally stood at 37 with mere four gold.

The second half of the continental Games is well and truly underway and India still have major heavy lifting to do climb through the ranks in the medal tally.
After faltering in the women's 10m air pistol, the focus will be on Manu Bhaker and Esha Singh to add something to that tally, preferably a gold.
Also starting their campaign at the Games would be Shreyas Iyer and boys in men's cricket against Afghanistan in the quarter-finals, eyeing to defend their title.
Archers, boxers, surfers, sailors and a host of other Indian athletes will also be in action during the course of the day.
