Asian Games 2026 : Vithya Ramraj sets NR to win bronze; Gulveer, Sreeshankar win silver - Highlights
India won six medals at the Asian Games on September 28, led by athletics silvers and bronzes from Murali Sreeshankar, Gulveer Singh and others.

Asian Games 2026: India enjoyed another strong medal haul at the 2026 Asian Games on Monday, winning six medals across athletics, shooting and kurash while also advancing in boxing and several team sports.
Athletics produced five medals for India. Murali Sreeshankar won silver in the men's long jump, while Gulveer Singh took silver in the 1500m. Yashvir Singh, Vithya Ramraj and Parul Chaudhary added bronze medals in the javelin throw, 400m hurdles and 5000m, respectively. Yashvir also became the first Indian to qualify for the 2027 World Athletics Championships, while Vithya broke PT Usha's 42-year-old national record in the 400m hurdles.
Esha Singh added silver in the women's 25m pistol, while Pincky Balhara won bronze in the women's -78kg Kurash category.
India also secured three more boxing medals as Lovlina Borgohain, Priya Ghanghas and Kapil Pokhariya advanced to their respective semifinals.
Highlights:
India beat Qatar 3-2 after fighting back from two sets down. The win completes a 3/3 record in the preliminary round, with India advancing to the quarterfinals as group toppers.

India win the fourth set 25-20 after Qatar took the opening two sets. The teams are level at 2-2, with the match heading into a fifth set.

India win the third set 25-23 after dropping the opening two sets 26-28, 25-27. They now lead 22-18 in the fourth set as they look to force a decider.

Indian relay team of Tamanna, Sneha SS, Sudhesna S and Abinaya Rajarajan clocked a season-best time of 43.57s but missed out on the podium.
Despite an amazing late push from Abinaya, the Indian team finished just 0.05s behind Japan, who won the bronze medal. China and Thailand took the gold & Silver medals.
India retained its back-to-back double podiums in men's javelin throw at the Asian Games.
Although not the gold this time, Yashvir Singh (85.72m) and Rohit Yadav (84.35m) clinched silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Yashvir Singh also bettered his personal best, improving his previous record of 85.41m from the Commonwealth Games 2026, where he won the bronze medal.
Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage took gold with 88.55m.
Another Asian Games silver medal for Murali Sreeshankar as he finished second with the best of 8.07m.
He also had to skip the last two attempts due to an ankle injury he sustained while attempting his fourth jump, as he slipped on the takeoff board because of the rain.
India complete a dominant win, with Mandeep Singh adding the 10th goal in the final minute. India scored in every quarter and kept Bangladesh scoreless throughout.

Indian star long jumper is currently in second place with the best of 8.07m from his second attempt, trailing China's Shi Yuhaa (8.17m).
Shreeshankar looked a bit injured after his 4th attempt, and it remains to be seen whether he will turn up for the final two attempts and chase the gold medal.
Parul Chaudhary was part of the leading pack right from the start and then in the final lap she blistered past Kazakhstan's Jeruto Tanui to win the bronze medal with a time of 15:14.61s
This was the second bronze medal of these games for the defending champion, following the bronze medal from her 3000 steeplechase event.
Meanwhile, 10,000m bronze medalist Seema finished 6th with a time of 15:35.06s.
