Asian Games 2026: India beat Hong Kong in volleyball, China in men's and women's squash

India's men's volleyball team registered its second straight win at the 2026 Asian Games, while both men's and women's squash teams also began their campaigns with victories on Monday.

India defeated Hong Kong China 25-22, 25-19, 25-21 in a Pool C preliminary round match. Despite the straight-set result, Hong Kong remained competitive throughout, frequently keeping the deficit to one or two points.

India had earlier defeated Vietnam 3-0 and will face Qatar in their next Pool C match on Tuesday.

The Indian men's squash team also made a strong start, beating China 3-0 in Pool A. Suraj Chand defeated Du Shaoqian 11-4, 11-3, 12-10 before Veer Chotrani beat U Haizhen 11-5, 11-5, 11-3. Velavan Senthilkumar then completed the clean sweep with an 11-3, 11-2, 11-4 win over Zhou Penglin.

The women's team fought back to beat China 2-1 in Pool C. Sameena Riaz lost a five-game battle against Ziuan Yin after surrendering a two-game lead, but Tanvi Khanna and Joshna Chinappa won their matches to seal the tie.

Tanvi beat Zhang Yuning 11-3, 11-5, 11-5, while Joshna defeated Liu Ziyi 12-10, 11-4, 11-6.

In tennis, Ankita Raina and Rutuja Bhosale lost 7-5, 3-6, 5-10 to Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva and Anna Danilina in the women's doubles first round.

Sumit Nagal's men's singles match against South Korea's Hong Seongchan was suspended due to rain with Nagal leading 3-2 in the opening set. The match will resume on Tuesday.

India's women's doubles sepak takraw team also exited after losing 1-2 to Japan, finishing last in Group B.
