Asian Games 2026: Who is Quimcy D'souza? The teqball star just a win away from India's first medal

Quimcy D'Souza is on the verge of creating history at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with a shot at becoming the first Indian to win a Teqball medal at the continental Games.

Placed in Group A in women’s singles, Quimcy was up against top seed and host teqer Yuina Sakamoto.

She was expected to punch above her weight against the top seed, and the Indian delivered in a hard-fought three-set battle, emerging victorious 10-12, 12-11, 13-11.

She then returned to beat Cambodia's Kemyean Dy in straight sets, 12-9, 12-7 to top her group.

By virtue of her performance in the group stage, Quimcy got a bye in the quarters and a direct entry into the semifinals to be played on Saturday, putting her just a win away from an Asian Games medal on debut.

Who is Quimcy D'Souza?

A seven-time national champion, Quimcy grew up in Mumbai before moving to Bengaluru, where she works as a test engineer for Decathlon.

Away from her full-time day job and competition, she is the founder of the Teqball Club of Bangalore. Quimcy has played a key role in promoting the sport at the grassroots level in India.

Quimcy began her sporting journey in athletics, representing Maharashtra in mid-distance running in 2014, before going on to represent the state in Under-19 football.

She was the first Indian female athlete to represent the country internationally in Teqball. She continued to excel on the international circuit, achieving a career-high World No. 24 ranking and breaking into the Top 6 in Asia.

At the 2025 Teqball World Championships in Romania, Quimcy finished ninth overall.

She is now a part of India’s three-member Teqball contingent and is competing in women’s singles and alongside Mohamed Anas in mixed doubles.

Teqball is one of six sports making its debut at the quadrennial event.
