Asian Games 2026: India wins kabaddi double as Anahat, Abhay reach squash finals

India completed a golden double in kabaddi on September 26 as both the men’s and women’s teams successfully defended their Asian Games titles. The women beat Iran 37-34, while the men defeated Iran 40-34 in a thrilling final. India’s tally stood at 30 medals, including four gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze, at the end of the day. 

In shooting, Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod and Ashi Chouksey won silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3P team event. Tilottama finished fourth and Vidarsa fifth in the individual final.

Athletics brought two more silver medals. Sawan Barwal finished second in the men’s marathon, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor won silver in the men’s shot put with 20.64m. Prachi Chaudhary added bronze in the women’s 400m. Animesh Kujur qualified for the 200m final, while Gulveer Singh and Yoonus Shah advanced to the 1500m final.

Squash produced two major final berths. Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh reached the women’s and men’s singles finals, while Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar secured bronze in mixed doubles.

In badminton, PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda, Ayush Shetty and Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand progressed, with Treesa and Gayatri stunning world No. 3 Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto. Ayush and Lakshya Sen later exited.

India’s men’s hockey team beat Japan 2-0, with Abhishek and Harmanpreet Singh scoring. In archery, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Chikitha Taniparthi topped their respective recurve and compound qualification rounds, with Dhiraj setting a Games record.

Boxers Kapil Pokhariya and Priya Ghanghas advanced, while Jadumani Singh exited. India’s table tennis campaign ended with Manush Shah and Yashaswini Ghorpade losing their singles matches.

India also exited without medals in fencing and esports, while canoeing saw Geetha Parvathy-Sathyaprakash Chempadiyil finish ninth in the mixed kayak double 500m and Harshwardhan Shaktawat finish 10th overall in the men’s kayak single.
