Yumnam Sanathoi Devi bags the silver medal as she loses the final against Yueyao LI in the women's 52kg category at the 15th World Wushu Championships. This is her fourth World Championship medal.

A resident of Yairipok Top Chingtha village in Thoubal district of Manipur, she won a bronze medal at the Incheon Asian Games 2014. Sanathoi took up Wushu, traditional Chinese martial arts in the year 2003 under the guidance of Maibam Surbala Devi and later under Moirangthem Ibomcha Meitei.

She trained under the state association for three years before shifting base to Sports Authority of India, Centre of Excellence North East Regional Centre in Imphal. She won a gold medal at the National Games in 2007, held in Guwahati.

This is the fourth World Championships medal for Yumnam Sanathoi.

The Arjuna Awardee bagged three consecutive silver medals at the world championships, which were held in Turkey 2011, Malaysia 2013 and Jakarta 2015. Her previous outing includes a quarterfinal exit at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

She also bagged a bronze medal at the 7th Asian Games held at Incheon, South Korea, in 2014. Sanathoi won a bronze medal at the 2014 World Cup, held in Indonesia. She was among the 17 players who were conferred the Arjuna Award 2015.

Earlier today, Praveen Kumar has emerged victorious in the Men's 48kg category after beating Filipino Russel Diaz in the final. The 22-year-old hailing from Kalanaur creates history for India as he becomes the country's first-ever Men's World Champion in Wushu by securing gold at the ongoing World Championships in Shanghai, China.
