NADA serves notice to Vinesh Phogat for missing dope test
An explanation has been sought from the former wrestler within 14 days.
Star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat found herself under the radar of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
On Wednesday, the NADA issued a notice to the wrester-turned-politician for a whereabouts failure.
The NADA stated that Vinesh was not available for a dope test on September 9 and thus committed a whereabouts failure.
They now seek an explanation from the 30-year-old wrestler within 14 days.
According to the regulations, all the athletes registered with NADA's Registered Testing Pool (RTP) have to be available for a dope test on the given place and time. Anyone who fails to do so will be considered a whereabouts failure.
The NADA notice
“You are hereby given a formal notice to notify you about apparent failure to comply with the whereabouts requirements of the ADR, and to invite you to make any comments before we come to a final decision on the matter,” the notice read.
“A Dope Control Officer (DCO) was sent to test you on that day at that time and place. However, he was unable to locate you for testing as you were not available at the given location,” the statement continued.
Vinesh, however, is unlikely to be affected by the notice since she has drawn the curtains on her sporting career after she missed out on a medal at the Paris Olympics for being 100 grams overweight in the women's 50kg category ahead of her gold medal bout.
Vinesh has now embarked on a political career and is currently contesting the Haryana assembly elections on a Congress ticket.
