India’s Vishvajit More made history on Tuesday, becoming the country’s first-ever Greco-Roman finalist at the U23 World Championships in Las Vegas, USA.
More advanced to the final of men’s 55kg after defeating Russia’s Malik Gigiev 7-4. He will now play Georgia’s Koba Karumidze for a place in history on Thursday.
More fought some close bouts en route to the final. He overcame Mexico’s Isaac Marin Mata 10-8 before defeating U20 world champion Armin Shamsipour of Iran in a one-sided quarterfinal 8-1.
More is a two-time reigning bronze medalist, having won in 2025 and 2024. At the U23 World Championship last year, he defeated Kazakhstan’s Yerassyl Mmayrbekov 5-4 in the bronze medal match in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Meanwhile, other Indian grapplers failed to make an impact, conceding their opening round encounters.
In the men's 63kg category, Chetan lost to USA's Drury L, while Sagar Singh (67kg) lost to Japan's T Suzuki. Sourav Rana (72kg) and Karan Kamboj (87kg) also lost their respective bouts.
