U23 World Wrestling C'ships: Sujeet and Priya Malik to lead the Indian squad

The Indian squad for the upcoming U23 World Wrestling Championships which is scheduled to take place in Tirana, Albania from October 21 to 27 was announced on Sunday.

Some of the notable names in the squad included Sujeet Kalkal in Men’s 70kg Freestyle. He will be returning to the circuit after World Qualifiers where he narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Paris Olympics.

Also on the list is U20 World Champion and senior Asian Championships Bronze medallist Priya Malik in Women's 76kg freestyle.

She is one of the most experienced Indian wrestlers on the team and will be hoping for a good performance on her debut U23 World Championships.

The 2024 edition of the U23 World Wrestling Championships will have 30 medal events in the competition - 10 each in men's freestyle, women's freestyle, and men's greco roman.

The Japanese team has won five of the last six editions of these championships and will be looking to make it three in a row in Albania.

Team USA and Team Iran are the ones to watch out for in the men's category whereas in the women's category, the Japanese contingent will be the one to beat.

Men's Freestyle: Chirag (57 Kg), Abhishek (61 Kg), Mohit (65 Kg), Sujeet (70 Kg), Sukhpal (74 Kg), Sahil (79 Kg), Deepak (86 Kg), Sumit (92 Kg), Vicky (97 Kg), Anirudh (125 Kg).

Men's Greco-Roman: Vishwajit (55 Kg), Suraj (60 Kg), Ankit (63 Kg), Sachin (67 Kg), Akash (72 Kg), Karan (77 Kg), Deepak (82 Kg), Rohit (87 Kg), Nitin (97 Kg), Uttam (125 Kg).

Women's wrestling: Komal (50 Kg), Hanshika (53 Kg), Bhavika (55 Kg), Neha (57 Kg), Anjali (59 Kg), Nitika (62 Kg), Shiksha (65 Kg), Monika (68 Kg), Kritika (72 Kg), Priya (76 Kg).
