Neha wins 59kg gold as India takes medal tally to eight in Budapest

Former U17 world champion Neha clinched the women's 59kg title as India enjoyed another successful outing on Day 3 of the Polyák Imre, Varga János & Kozma István Memorial Senior Ranking Tournament 2026 in Budapest on Friday.

The Indian wrestler defeated the United States' Abigail E. Nette 6-4 in a closely fought final to claim her maiden senior Ranking Series gold and India's second gold medal of the competition after Aman Sehrawat's triumph in the men's 57kg category.

Neha held her composure throughout the tactical contest, edging past the American to continue her impressive transition from the junior to the senior circuit.

Mansi, Savita add to India's medal haul

India also secured two medals in the women's 62kg category. Mansi progressed to the final but had to settle for silver after suffering an injury during her title bout against Canada's Ana Paula Godinez Gonzalez.

Savita rounded off the day's success by claiming bronze with a commanding 14-5 victory over Kazakhstan's Irina Kuznetsova in the medal playoff.

The three medals took India's overall tally at the tournament to eight, comprising two gold, two silver and four bronze medals.

The country's medal winners so far include gold medallists Aman Sehrawat (57kg) and Neha (59kg), silver medallists Hansika Lamba (55kg) and Mansi (62kg), and bronze medallists Deepak (61kg), Vishal Kaliraman (65kg), Rajat Ruhal (125kg) and Savita (62kg).

Competition will continue on Saturday with the remaining women's freestyle events and the opening day of the Greco-Roman competition. India will be represented by Nishu (53kg), Neha Sharma (57kg), Deeksha Malik (72kg) and Priya (76kg) in the women's events, while Anil (72kg), Rohit Bura and Kumar Sunil (both 87kg) will begin the country's Greco-Roman campaign.
