Indian wrestler Mansi Ahlawat achieved a unique feat after winning a bronze medal at the 2024 World Wrestling Championships.
With bronze at the senior world championships, Mansi has now won medals at all the age group World Championships starting from the U17 World Championships.
Mansi started with a silver medal in the 40kg category at the U17 World Championships in 2016, a bronze medal in the 57kg category at the U20 World Championships in 2018, a bronze medal in the 59kg category at the U23 World Championships in 2022 and her latest success at 2024 World Championships in Tirana, Albania.
Before this, she played in the bronze medal match at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and also represented India at the Olympic qualifiers missing the qualification by the barest of the margins.
Hailing from Rohtak, Haryana, Mansi comes from the famous Chhotu Ram Akhara of the city which is known to produce India's only Olympic medal-winning woman wrestler Sakshi Malik.
As a kid, Mansi tried many sports with Gymnastics being one but it was the wrestling hall in the stadium that fascinated her.
"My reflexes and movements were developed due to the years of hard work that I put in while I was into gymnastics. The strength and endurance were also there. All that helps while I wrestle on the mat. The transition was much easier," Mansi had Times of India in an interview after winning a bronze medal at the Junior World Championship in 2021.
At the age of just 23 years old, Mansi has already made a mark in the country as one of the most consistent wrestlers and her talent can be a big boost for India in the 57kg Olympic category from a future perspective.
