Indian women wrestlers continued their good show at the U17 World Wrestling Championships in Amman, Jordan, and clinched the team title with a total of eight medals on Friday.

With five gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals, the Indian team scored 185 points finishing above Japan. Japan scored 146 points with one gold, four silver, and one bronze.

This is the first time in the history of U17 Women's wrestling that India has clinched the team title after coming close to the last editions.

Raj Bala continued the medal-winning spree for India in women's wrestling after she defeated Umekawa of Japan 11-5 in the bronze medal bout of 40kg.

One followed the other as Muskan clinched another bronze in the 53kg category with a big win over Isabella Gonzales of the USA in the bronze medal match.

In the 69kg category, Kajal defeated Oleksandra of Ukraine 9-2 in the final match to win the gold medal. This is India's fifth gold medal in the women's wrestling with four coming yesterday.

In a bout that lasted for just 40 seconds, India's Shrutika Patil went down easily to Tuu Katsume of Japan (0-12) by technical superiority in the 46kg category settling for a silver medal.

India lost out on a medal in the 61kg category as Rajnita lost by fall to Hurbanova of Azerbaijan in the bronze medal match.

Earlier on Thursday, Indian wrestlers dominated with Aditi (43kg), Neha (57kg), Pulkit (65kg), and Mansi Lather (73kg) winning gold in their respective categories.

India has won a total of 10 medals in the tournament with Ronak Dahiya and Sainath Pardhi winning bronze in the Greco-Roman category.

Disappointment in men's freestyle for India

In the men's freestyle, Indian wrestlers put up a disappointing show on the first day of the competition as none of the wrestlers reached the semi-final.

Only two of them managed to win a round.

Harsh (48kg) began with a confident 6-2 win over Erbol Bolotov but was outsmarted by Chingis Saryglar in the quarterfinal.

In the 55kg category, Jaiveer Singh fell at the first hurdle, losing on criteria (3-3) to Azatberdi Ashyrgulyev, who later lost his quarterfinal to end the Indian's chance of making a comeback through repechage.

In 65kg, Sagar lost his qualification bout 5-7 to Bakdaulet Akimzhan and will now have to wait to know if the repechage route opens up for him.

Vevik began with a decent 11-4 victory over Aliaksei Kuryla but lost his quarterfinal bout by technical superiority to Nikoloz Maisuradze.

In the 110kg bout, Jaspooran Singh lost on criteria (1-1) to Kazakhstan's Yedige Kassimbek.
