After a long and excruciating wait for the Indian fans, the 2019 World Wrestling Championship gets underway tomorrow in Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan with as many as 30 wrestlers from the Indian contingent set to compete against their global counterparts over the course of ten days. Bajrang Punia headlines the Indian contingent this year, especially after missing out on a gold medal in the previous edition of the tournament.

Bajrang Punia will most definitely be in charge of taking the mantle forward for the men’s squad at the World Wrestling Championship beginning from September 14.

The Championship tournament is expected to draw sweeping attention as it poses a qualification event for the Tokyo Olympics scheduled for next year where six grapplers in each Olympic weight category finishing at the top will directly secure a berth at the marquee event. Over a thousand wrestlers from across 100 countries will look forward to vying a seat for the Olympics, and hence, it is certain that the World Championship will feature a blend of some high-octane action and nerve-wracking encounters as we wait with baited breaths to catch Bajrang and Co. live in action. The Indian contingent will endeavour to make their impact felt in three weight categories - Freestyle Wrestling, Women’s Wrestling, and Greco-Roman Wrestling. Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan is all set to be the ground zero beaming with scintillating action from tomorrow with the grand finale to be played on September 22.

Sakshi Malik will look to spearhead the women’s 62-kg weight category at the World Wrestling Championship tournament.

While a stout-figured Bajrang Punia will most definitely be in charge of taking the mantle forward for the men’s squad, Sakshi Malik will look to spearhead the women’s 62-kg weight category. With the Tokyo Olympic qualification up for grabs, the Indian grapplers will step up to the occasion to prove their mettle at the upcoming World Championship tournament.

The media rights partners of the United World Wrestling for the Indian subcontinent is Sporty Solutionz which has partnered with Sony Picture Network India for a live broadcast of the UWW Wrestling World Championship in the Indian territory. Sony Pictures Networks India has acquired the broadcasting rights and fans can catch the preliminary rounds of the tournament only on SonyLIV. The semi-finals and finals across all the three events, Freestyle Wrestling, Women’s Wrestling, and Greco-Roman Wrestling, will be live-streamed daily on Sony Ten 3 SD & HD and Sony ESPN SD & HD channels as well as on SonyLIV from tomorrow until September 22.
