After a meeting with the top wrestlers of the country, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has advised everyone to stay on the hunt for the dependable foreign coach. Three chief coaches were also present in the meeting on Tuesday along with WFI president Brij Bhushan Singh who presented the proposals over there in the build-up to the upcoming Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast. India's track record with foreign coaches has been good in the past. Previously, Russia's Sergei Beloglazov, a former World and Olympic champion refused to pay a visit to India for coaching purposes due to WFI's reputation of not sending foreign coaches to International tournaments. 'We will hire today if we can find someone with good credentials. But I don't think we will be able to hire anyone before the Asian Championships. We are trying to get a coach before CWG. We held a meeting to discuss this,' said Brij Bhushan Singh. Image result for wrestling india
Source: The Hindu India is without a foreign coach in each of the three disciplines of the Commonwealth Games, namely the men's freestyle, women's freestyle and Greco-Roman. Vladimer Mestirish was not retained following the 2016 Rio Olympics along with women's freestyle coach Roin Doborjginidze and Greco-Roman coach Emzar Makharadze. As per the reports, the WFI is expecting to rope in former European champion Emzarios Bentinidis who is currently coaching Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia. Regarding the matter, Punia said, 'We need a foreign coach and the federation asked me if I can check with my coach if he will be willing to join the national team. If he wants to, he can join the team after his contract with me ends.' The Asian Wrestling Championships will begin on February 28 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan while the much awaited Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will kick start from April 4 in Australia. It's not about the above-mentioned events; the WFI is also taking such bold steps keeping in mind the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which is two and a half years away. 'We need to win medals at the Tokyo Olympics. We are focused on finding a foreign coach for the teams,' said the President of WFI.
