The Delhi Capitals got back to winning ways with a thumping six-wicket win over Gujarat Giants in the 2025 Women's Premier League at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.
The Capitals opted to bowl first and restricted the Giants to a partly 127/9 in their 20 overs.
The two-time finalists then chased down the target with 29 balls to spare to boost their net run rate.
Here are the talking points from the match:
Delhi Capitals move to top of table
The win against Gujarat Giants propelled the Delhi Capitals to the top of the 2025 Women's Premier League standings.
Though they have played an extra match compared to a majority of the others, the Capitals are the first team to register three wins in the tournament. They now have six points from five matches, with three wins and two losses.
The Giants, meanwhile, continue to occupy the bottom spot in the standings with just a solitary win after four matches.
Kapp runs riot
Marizanne Kapp starred with the ball for the Capitals after they opted to bowl first. The South African bowled a double wicket maiden, scalping Harleen Deol and Phoebe Litchfield in just the fourth over of the match.
Those were the first two wickets of the innings and the Giants never recovered from the blow. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and it required a special effort from No 8 batter Bharti Fulmali to help them past the three-digit mark.
Fulmali remained unbeaten on 40 off 29 with four boundaries and two sixes.
As for the Capitals, Kapp despite not taking any more wickets finished with figures of 2-17 in her four overs. Shikha Pandey and Annabel Sutherland also picked up two wickets apiece.
Jess Jonassen seals the deal
The Delhi Capitals were never in trouble during the chase. Even though Meg Lanning struggled for her 13-ball 3 before being cleaned up by Kashvee Gautam, the other batters stepped up.
Shafali Verma (44) stitched a 74-run partnership with Jess Jonassen, who was promoted up the order, for the second wicket.
Even Verma fell to Ashleigh Gardner after a 27-ball whirlwind knock, the Capitals required just 40 more runs to win.
Jonassen continued her merry ways despite losing two other partners – Jemimah Rodrigues and Sutherland – to steer the Capitals to a comfortable victory.
The Australian all-rounder finished unbeaten on 61 off 32 deliveries with nine boundaries and two sixes.
Fittingly, it was Kapp (9*) who hit the winning runs for the Capitals, finding a boundary towards the cover region.
