Indian pugilist Manish Kaushik lost to reigning World CHampions Andy Cruz Gomez of Cuba in the semi-final of the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championship on Friday to finish his campaign with a bronze medal. Kaushik, in the 63kg was outplayed 0-5 by the Cuban whose powerful and speedy punches found the Indian unmatched. Gomez triumphed 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 and 30-27.

Manish, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist, beat non-seeded Brazil’s Wanderson de Oliveira 5-0 in the quarter-finals on Friday, which ensured him the bronze medal.

Earlier today, India's ace boxer Amit Panghal who became the first Indian male to ever reach the finals of the Worlds, Panghal beat Saken Bibossinov of Kazakhstan.

Manish Kaushik became the sixth Indian male boxer to win a medal at the World Championship. Across the history of Men’s World Boxing Championship, India had won four medals, all bronze by Vijender Singh (2009), Vikas Krishan Yadav (2011), Shiva Thapa (2015), Gaurav Bhiduri (2017). Amit Panghal ensured a silver for India to become the fifth male boxer to win a World Championship medal.
