2019 World Boxing Championship: Duryodhan Singh Negi bows out in Round 2
Out of eight Indian boxers, Duryodhan Singh Negi becomes the third one to bow out of the 2019 Men's World Bocing Championship.
A seemingly slow start costs India's Duryodhan Singh Negi (69kg) bowing out from World Men's Boxing Championship on Monday after he was beaten 1-4 by Jordan's sixth-seeded Zeyad Eashash in the second round of the tournament.
Negi, a former national champion, went on his maiden world championship this time. He won his opening 69kg bout on Friday against Armenia’s Koryun Astoyan.
In today's bout, the opening round belonged to the Jordanian who exploited Negi's defence throwing some powerful punches. Though Negi recovered in the second round with some rightly-placed body hooks Eashash maintained his composure and supremacy over Negi.
Negi tried to claw back with an all-out aggressive approach in the final three minutes and even though the boxer from Jordan looked exhausted, he had just enough in the tank to pull through for a split verdict.
Negi becomes the third out of eight Indian pugilists to be knocked out of the tournament after Ashish Kumar, Brijesh Yadav.
