WPL Auction 2025: Top 5 most expensive buys
Four of the top five expensive buys in the WPL auction 2025 were Indians.
The much-anticipated Women's Premier League (WPL) auction 2025 in Bengaluru witnessed some surprising buys, with a few players securing hefty deals.
The most notable buy was 16-year-old G Kamalini, who dazzled with an unbeaten knock of 44 off 29 balls against Pakistan in the ACC Women's U19 Asia Cup on Sunday. She was picked up by Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 1.6 crore.
Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals went hammer and tongs to get the service of 16-year-old Kamalini before the former grabbed the deal for Rs 1.6 crore, much higher than her base price of Rs 10 lakh.
In other expensive buys in the WPL auction 2025, Gujarat Giants procured the services of all-rounder Deandra Dottin and Simran Shaikh for Rs 1.7 crore and Rs 1.9 crore, respectively. While Simran became the costliest buy in WPL, Dottin became the most expensive overseas signing in the auction.
Last year, Dottin was signed for Rs 60 lakh by Gujarat Giants. However, she was later released from the league by Gujarat Giants under controversial circumstances.
Meanwhile, promising Uttarakhand leg-spinner Prema Rawat was signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for a massive Rs. 1.2 crore.
Rawat had a base price of Rs 10 lakh. Delhi Capitals and RCB were engaged in fierce bidding to get her service before they secured her service for a whopping Rs 1.2 crore.
Rawat, who dazzled for Mussoire Thunders in the inaugural Uttarakhand Premier League earlier this year by picking four wickets, has become the second leg-spinner in the RCB squad. Asha Sobhana is the other leg-spinner in their ranks.
Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, signed 20-year-old spinner N Charani for Rs 55 lakhs.
