U19 Women's T20 World Cup: India beats Sri Lanka to top Group A; secure Super Six spot
Indian opener Trisha Gongadi was named player of the match.
India secured a comprehensive 60-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final group stage match of the 2025 U19 Women's T20 World Cup at the Bayuemas Oval on Thursday.
Having scored 118/9 batting first, the Indian bowlers were at the best as they restricted Sri Lanka to 58/9 in the run chase.
With this win India advanced to the super six phase of the World Cup as Group A toppers.
The Sri Lankan bowlers started strongly after winning the toss, restricting the Indian batters from playing freely.
They also managed to pick up wickets at regular intervals, but opener Trisha G managed to hold fast on one end and anchored the innings, ensuring there is no collapse of the batting unit.
Trisha managed to score 49 runs (44 balls, 5x4s, 1x6) on a wicket where other batters struggled.
In the end, India finished with 118/9 in 20 overs, thanks to useful contributions from the lower order.
With the ball in hand, India were on the money from the get-go, picking up as many as five wickets inside the powerplay while conceding just 25 runs.
The Sri Lankan batters never got going and they stuttered to a finish at the end, scoring 58/9 in 20 overs.
Shabnam Shakil was superb with the new ball, and her spell of four overs yielded just seven runs and two wickets.
Another stand-out bowler was Vaishnavi Sharma, who gave away just three runs in her four overs and picked up a wicket. Parunika Sisodia's 2-7 in four overs was another highlight in the bowling unit.
With the group stage done, India will now play in the Super Six, where they will face Bangladesh and Scotland on January 26th and 28th respectively.
