Women's Cricket: Madhya Pradesh wins maiden Senior One Day title
Madhya Pradesh scored a facile seven-wicket victory over West Bengal.
Madhya Pradesh won their first-ever Women's Senior One Day Trophy, on Monday, following a seven-wicket win over West Bengal at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, Gujarat.
Opener Anushka Sharma remained unbeaten on 69 off 102 deliveries as Madhya Pradesh reached 139/3 in 34.4 overs, chasing down the target with more than 15 overs to spare.
Sharma struck nine boundaries in her innings and found an able ally in Ayush Shukla, who stayed unbeaten on 30 off 29 as Madhya Pradesh romped home.
India international Titas Sadhu was the only bowler to trouble the Madhya Pradesh batters, finishing with figures of 3-32 in eight overs.
Earlier in the day, West Bengal were bowled out for a mere 136 in the first innings.
They lasted only 38.2 overs in the middle, with Priyanka Bala scoring 42 off 74 with six boundaries.
It was pacer Kranti Gaud, who set the ball rolling for Madhya Pradesh as she singlehandedly run through the West Bengal top order.
Gaud cleaned up openers Dhara Gujjar (0), and Sasthi Mondal (5) cheaply, before prizing out Bengal's star batter Richa Ghosh for a golden duck.
Gaud's fiery spell meant that West Bengal were three wickets down inside five overs and they never really recovered.
Shuchi Upadhyay, Priyanka, and Vaishnavi Sharma also chipped in with two wickets apiece.
