India beat England by 270 runs to win the first-ever women's Test match at the Lord's Cricket Ground on Monday.

Needing just four wickets to win heading into the final day's play, India bowled out England within the first session for 186 to write themselves into the women's cricket history books.

Hosts England managed to add only 56 more runs to their overnight score as the off-spinning duo of Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma shared four wickets among themselves to close off the match.

Rana started with a maiden over on the day, before prizing out half-centurion Amy Jones for India's first wicket of the day.

Left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, who had scalped five wickets on Day 3, waged a lone battle with the bat for England on the final day, scoring her maiden Test half century before Rana cleaned her up as well.

Rana finished as the best Indian bowler in the second innings, finishing with figures of 4-24 in 19.5 overs.

Sharma, Sayali Satghare, and Kranti Gaud all picked up two wickets apiece as India completed a famous victory.

Earlier in the match, India had posted 285/10 in the first innings after being asked to bat first with opener Smriti Mandhana top scoring with 83. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Sharma also scored half-centuries to help India post a challenging total.

The visitors then skittled out England for a mere 170 in the second innings, as Goud starred with a five-wicket haul to become the first woman to have her name etched in the Lord's Honours Board.

India then declared in the third innings at 341/7, riding on the back of a brilliant century from wicketkeeper batter Yastika Bhatia as they batted England out of the match.

Goud was named the Player of the Match for her haul of seven wickets in the Test.
