India defended their ICC U19 Women's Cricket World Cup title, defeating South Africa by nine wickets to clinch the trophy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday.

After bowling out South Africa for just 82 runs, the Indian team needed only 11.2 overs to complete the chase with nine wickets in hand.

Gongadi Trisha was adjudged the Player of the Match for her brilliant all-round display as she played a quickfire 44-run innings off 33 balls and picked up three wickets.

Trisha also won the "Player of the Series" award as the top run-getter in the tournament. She scored 309 runs in seven innings with an impressive average of 77.25.

South Africa, who had been unbeaten throughout the tournament, opted to bat first after winning the toss. But, they could not make a good start, losing three wickets for just 20 runs. At one point, the side was reeling at 44 for 5.

South Africa had a slight hope when it built a 30-run partnership for the sixth wicket. But it was not enough as the side was skittled out for just 82 runs despite playing a full 20 overs.

Indian spinners Parunika Sisodia, Aayushi Shukla, and Vaishnavi Sharma picked up two wickets each, whereas Gongadi Trisha added three to her kitty, dismantling the in-form South African team.

India chased down the target of 83 by consuming only 68 balls. A 48-run partnership between Trisha and Sanika Chalke for the second wicket helped India win.

After the departure of G Kamalini for just 8 runs, Sanika played an unbeaten 26, denying South Africa's hopes of a comeback. India eventually clinched the title, with Trisha scoring an unbeaten 44 while Chalke stayed unbeaten on 26.

India won the inaugural edition of the World Cup by seven wickets against England in 2023 in South Africa.
