Deepti Sharma is focused on T20 World Cup despite venue change to UAE
After shining in The Hundred, Deepti Sharma is focused on contributing to India's success in the T20 World Cup.
Star Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma remains undeterred by the sudden change in venue for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, which was relocated from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to unrest in the host nation.
The tournament, initially slated for October 3-20 in Bangladesh, will now be held in Dubai and Sharjah, with Bangladesh retaining the hosting rights.
Deepti, a crucial player for the Indian team, expressed her confidence in adapting to the new conditions in the UAE.
“It doesn’t matter wherever the World Cup is happening, I just focus on how as an all-rounder I can contribute to the team’s success,” she said during an exclusive interview with PTI on the sidelines of the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards.
The 26-year-old all-rounder has been in exceptional form, showcasing her skills both with the bat and ball in recent months.
Reflecting on her approach to handling pressure, Deepti said, “I am enjoying my cricket at the moment, and this has enabled me to shrug the pressure off my shoulders. I don’t let pressure get the better of me; I have developed this habit since I played the first game in the Women’s Super League back in 2018.”
Deepti’s recent performance in The Hundred 2024, where she played a key role for London Spirit Women, has further boosted her confidence.
She capped off the tournament with a memorable winning six, securing the team’s first-ever title.
“That moment was amazing; this is what I was missing. It is always great that you win the game for your team,” she concluded.
