Former Ranji stalwart Amol Muzumdar was appointed as the head coach of the Indian women's cricket team, BCCI confirmed via a press release on Wednesday.

The three members of the Cricket Advisory Committee, Mr. Ashok Malhotra, Ms. Sulakshana Naik, and Mr. Jatin Paranjape, conducted interviews with the candidates who made the shortlist for the role of Head Coach for Team India (Senior Women).

Following careful and deliberate consideration, all three committee members recommended that Amol Muzumdar be appointed to the position.

Throughout his 21-year stellar career, Muzumdar—a domestic titan—scored over 11,000 first-class runs in 171 matches, including 30 centuries. In addition, he played in 14 T20 matches and more than 100 List-A games. After representing Mumbai in multiple Ranji Trophy victories, he went on to represent Andhra Pradesh and Assam.

Talking about his appointment, Muzumdar said," “I am deeply honored and privileged to be appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Women's Cricket Team. I thank the CAC and the BCCI for placing their trust in me and believing in my vision and the roadmap for Team India. This is a huge responsibility and I look forward to working closely with talented players and providing them with the right preparation and guidance to excel."

"The next two years are extremely important as two World Cups are scheduled in the period. Together with the coaching and support staff, we will look to tick every box and give ourselves the best chance to succeed," he added further.

In the past, Amol has worked with the Netherlands men's team and India's U19 and U23 teams. He has also served as a batting consultant for the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals.

The Indian women's team was without a head coach for months and played the recent World Cup and Asian Games with Hrishikesh Kanitkar as the interim coach.
